Silvretta Montafon – My Skiing Experience

Silvretta Montafon is a very nice skiing resort in Austria, where one can arrive in two and a half hours drive from Zurich (our friend  came from Zurich to join us for three days) or a little less if you travel from Beringen, where was our starting point.  This was our second time here – first was ten years ago and it was just for a  day so we decided to do it properly this time. 

Hotel  Base Montafon was chosen for us from many alike in St. Gallenkirch by our friends we were travelling with, since they are regular guests there. It is a small family hotel with a rather well money-value ratio, happily situated near the ski bus station, which is an important feature. Ski bus has a very tight schedule, on 7 or 8 minutes and it goes right to the gondola base. Another important detail for stress relief was renting a locker in ski depo under the gondola base – we went from hotel in light boots and our ski gear was waiting in depo, safe and warm. 

Silvretta Montafon is one of the most beautiful and well-developed ski region in Alpes. It certainly deserves every nice description since it has very good infrastructure, enough modern ski lifts, wide and long slopes rich in snow, which is kind of different then any other – it is lighter and softer, if it has any sense 🙂 The end of the January is a good time for skiing here because there are no crowds. Wheather can be tricky, as January always is, but we enjoyed our week – one day was windy with snow and another one was foggy but we were on the slopes whole day. Ski slopes are well prepared and skiing was really great. In one sentence – we had the best ski vacation ever.
